SO, WHAT’S THIS YEAR’S NEW RAMSBOTTOM BEER GUIDE ENTRY, THEN ?

December 2023. Ramsbottom.

I’m always surprised to see Ramsbottom in the Greater Manchester section of the Guide;

but I suppose I could never paint it as a posh Rawtenstall, could I ?

GBG22 – Bare boards and barrels brewery bar, Northern Whisper.

GBG20 – Royal British Legion Club selling mini Ploughmans

GBG18 – Cheery station locals pub.

You get the idea, one of everything in a well-pubbed town of 17,872 souls (compare to Holbeach).

So a craft beer bar isn’t a surprise, but Casked (top pic) is a bright, jolly, cafeteria of a craft bar, reminiscent of Blackpool’s Brew Room or Rochdale’s Medicine Tap.

So lots of gin, and pizza, and Frangipance mince pies,

but also an impressive cask line-up.

Or do Big Trip and Nightjar and Marble choose themselves in this sort of craft bar in 2023 ?

People who dislike electronic display boards will be delighted to hear there’s only one page, so you don’t have to stand staring up at the wall waiting for the cask beers to come back.

I think “highly impressed” would be a better summary than “wowed” here, but that house Brewsmith was a superbly chewy NBSS 3.5,

and if we ever take NBSS 3.5 beer for granted, let us all be damned,

  1. I spy my beer was on the beer board while you were there – evil keg though so you wouldn’t have noticed. Hopefully, you come across my cask beer somewhere on your travels soon.
