OCTOBER ’26 STOCKTAKE + NOVEMBER PREVIEW

A familiar look to the travel map,

Sheffield-Waterbeach-Tunbridge Wells- Rye, repeat. Fifty-one pubs, a duff pint or two, but mostly great.

November may be the last month I need to stop in Waterbeach, though, as we give Dad a send-off next Friday.

He’d have loved what the new owners have done at Sunnyside.

From funerals to finals to Thaxted, which starts with an “F” in Essex, and was a highlight of the month’s rediscoveries.

While Morley (Leeds) was a revelation,

and the Waterworks down in Rye sneaked Pub of the Month with the controversial tactic of forcing folk to sit together and talk to each other. Where have I heard that mantra before ?

The “I Pee Alot” has the worst name for a great beer ever, so I’m giving Beer of the Month to Weekend Project x Neon Raptors 8% White Stout as Mrs RM liked it so much, even if not quite as much as the two pints of Jaipur (£2.05) she just necked in Spoons.

For a change, the culinary highlight was Nassington’s pie and chips rather than Crispy Beef. I’m going soft.

Oh, and from Morley, the best advice.

In November my only focus in on the next week or so, but after that Mrs RM may be able to resume her world tour. Or she may be stuck with me in Tunbridge Wells. Life is SO exciting.

  1. A very impressive month (through good times and bad!). Re. Waterworks, aye tables work when its such a small pub – people are forced to speak to each other. Otherwise, I prefer pubs where I can sit by the bar chatting with the locals.
