WELCOME TO THE GOOD BEER GUIDE 2022 – A TRIUMPH IN ADVERSITY

It’s the most wonderful day of the year* , the day the Good Beer Guide brings joy to 4,500 publicans and joy (and agony) to the hardy band of folk who attempt to visit all the pubs in the Guide.

Back in the dark days of the second (or was it third ?) Lockdown there was some doubt that there’d even be a 2022 GBG, or at least one as we know it, and it’s to the massive credit of all in CAMRA that we have the centrepoint of the Campaign for Real Ale in our hands again.

Well, not in MY hands, of course. I’m still waiting for it, presumably ostracised following my sincere and unwavering support for Doom Bar.

But through “other methods” I pretty much know what’s in it, and know I can congratulate Helen and Andrew in my favourite Proper Pub for another well-deserved entry. (Do NOT press the play button).

What I can’t do is tell you how many pubs I still need to visit in the new Guide, as I haven’t received it yet, so you’ll have to read BRAPA instead.

One thing is for sure; only one man has ever done ALL the entries in a current Guide, and he’s still seeking out new treasures (and sheep).

No doubt I’ll be back shortly to summarise the joys of the Guide for you in painstaking detail, including a new entry open only six (6) hours a week. And it’s great.

*apart from 22 December, obviously
