SOD IT, I’M FREEZING

You left me in the Soup Kitchen, with an hour till my overdue hair cut.

I suddenly remembered I’d only had a bag of McCoys Salt & Vinegar Ridge Cut crisps for lunch, and frankly if This & That had been open I’d have nipped in there for the Lamb and Spinach. I miss Manchester curry as much as its pubs.

There was no chance of a second pint anywhere, and with my weak bladder it would have been a bad idea, so I explored the posh bits.

The contrast between Withy Grove Stores and Boodles’s Patek Philip boutique is the essence of Manchester.

Sadly, most of Manchester’s Spoons don’t have outdoor area, or I’d have brought you a report from my 3rd Tim Martin pub of the day, just so you could be outraged at my behaviour.

There were a few tables outside the City Arms, all taken, but the nice man let me use their loo. I love the City Arms.

I even tried the Slug & Lettuce (top), but they claimed to be fully booked after seeing how scruffy I was.

At Maclures Barbers, Matt was completing a ten hour day as I became his last customer on comeback day. He has a winning way with the chat.

Poor lad. He really wanted to go somewhere nice for a pint and some scran after his first day of work since last year. But as you’ll know by now, if it wasn’t bookings only it was half a mile queues.

Even for the posh pubs.

By 9pm I was cold, tired and emotional and we called it quits and bought a houmous wrap from the Co-op.

A great day, but a damp squib to end.

You’ll be wanting to see my hair now, I guess.

  1. That empty glass looks like it had a Pornstar martini in it -I was disappointed to find no reference to it in your blog. Must have been very frustrating to find everywhere so packed

    1. I think it did ! I saw it on the table outside the Slug & Lettuce in Albert Square and had to take a pic ! Honestly, if I’d had a table I’d have bought one too.

To be honest, Pauline, I was wiped out by early evening, I’d been up very early and very over-excited. Shame the lad missed out on his first day back at work though, felt for him ?

What are your pub plans ?

      1. Going to try the halfway House at Brenchley tomorrow & have booked Richard !st in Greenwich the following friday (our usual routine is usually just Friday lunch in pub unless we decide to do a crawl -try to keep the units down as we tend to over do it on Sat night at home ! )

  2. Yeah, the physics always wins. This April sun is as strong as August’s, but the moment that it goes in you realise that our present air has been hanging around Spitsbergen since November.

Didn’t stop my daughter from drinking pints of Landlord, mind – I went to halves after the first.

Couldn’t the Soup Kitchen just put a pasta strainer on your head and cuts the bits off that stick out, saving you the trouble of waiting!

If those bins are any indication This & That was pretty popular!

“The contrast between Withy Grove Stores and Boodles’s Patek Philip boutique is the essence of Manchester.”

Agreed. And I thought Boodles was a store that only sold gin!

I’m sure, in your state, seeing something that says The Waterhouse wasn’t helping matters.

      1. “You’ll soon know Manchester better than the Mancunians, Russ.”

Yes, but… will I self identify as United or City? 😉

        Cheers
