A last pub of the night, sadly not one of the trad Wolves classics.
“Very quiet for a Thursday night” I thought, before realising it was Thursday, the night before Brexit.
Easy to lose track when Wolves are still in 1990 musically.
I could have walked to Bilston at a push, but I do like trams.
Not many folk got off at Bilston Central. It looked a bit spooky.
One of the steel towns that gave the Black Country its name, it’s had a Holdens jazz pub and as Spoons in the Guide over the two decades I’ve blissfully ignored its charms, but now there’s a café bar to grace the GBG.
Café Metro looks like a micro with its big open windows but there’s young people in there so legally it can’t be.
“Prohibition’s gone” says the Landlord. Bit late.
Oh, the Abbeydale one.
Well, well, there I was yesterday bemoaning the lack of Mallinsons, and here it was in sparkling form in suburban Wolves. A crisp , cool, dry 3.5.
“Are you here for the Robin ?” asks the Landlord.
“Eh ?”
“Most new faces are here before the gigs. Foo Fighterz tonight”.
I recommend the R’n’B soundtrack in Café Metro. AND you can get a beer here at 9am.
I also recommend Jivans, handily placed for the Wetherspoons (unless you’re inexplicably barred).

just the best lamb balti in Wolves.
BUT, and I cannot stress this highly enough, DO NOT search for Jivans Balti on the interweb. I am not responsible for the consequences.

Been in the Metro a couple of times, well worth it’s entry. More like a coffee shop that turns into a small bar in the evening. Beer quality in the Holden’s jazz bar would make you long for a pint of Donnington.
