NEVER DENY MRS RM HER PINT OF JAIPUR IN THE FARGATE

August 2026. Sheffield.

Mrs RM’s had to take a pair of shoes back, and walked a new pair in on the mile down into central Sheffield, where the first Christmas decorations were spotted on 23rd August.

You’ll be thrilled to know we’ve already completed our Christmas shopping.

Sadly, these exhertions caused flare-up of Mrs RM’s sporting injury, and all I could do to console her was a pint of Jaipur in the Fargate. I think she sped up as the door approached.

A fiver for sausage rolls probably sounds a lot to you, but they looked delicious.

Not as filling as the Thornbridge pizzas, though, expertly matched with Jaipur and something called Rider Grove from their Kelham Island range (don’t get me started on that).

The Fargate only opened last October; is that even too soon for a GBG27 debut ? We shall find out soon.

Like the Old Shoe, it aims for a different market to the Sheffield classics; there are folk here wearing nice jackets and blouses !

It’ll never top the Wellington or the KIT, but those booths are so cosy we spent three (3) hours chatting to Rockin’ Rich in one this year, and the soundtrack is always compelling.

Mrs RM’s foot wasn’t quite ready to hobble down to the bus stop (the No. 31 stops right outside our house !), so we shared a pint of Weekend Project, as good as cask gets.

A reminder though; never, ever, “share” a pint with Mrs RM.

  1. You are one of the fastest drinkers of a pint, in my experience, so are you saying Christine can drink faster? Or is it that you let her go first.

I’ve got one or two “nice jackets”, but if I wear one to my regular pubs, people always say “Oh, are you going somewhere special?”. So perhaps I should try the Fargate instead.
