Just to prove this blog isn’t all beer, here’s some tourist highlights i.e. things I could actually see when daylight returned to Dunkeld.

In the morning, over world-beating smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, the nice owner of Merryburn told me more about Dunkeld and Birnam than you’d find on Wiki, sparing me all those silly dates.

I thought about asking if Birnam was to Dunkeld as Salford is to Manchester but saw sense in time.

Birnam, like Salford, is a bit short on GBG pubs but has better baronial hotels and Beatrix Potter sculptures.

 

And you thought she was hiding from BRAPA in the Lake District.

I was blessed by autumnal sunshine in Scotland, and Telford’s bridge over the Tay reminded me of the Severn flowing through Bewdley, only lacking Batham’s and strange bikers.

The previous night’s pubs looked just as inviting in daylight,

but the bulk of tourists,  seemingly Japanese and French, were headed for the majestically situated cathedral.

Some gorgeous stained glass,

but the highlight is this statue of Duncan’s visit in 1985, complete with a badly treated GBG.

So that’s your lot, bar the modern art masterpiece that is “Public Toilet“* (top) and the flat roof splendour of “Social Club“.

Disappointingly, “Social Club” doesn’t actually open at 7.30am.

*Public Toilet wanted 50p for comfort, so I advise the platform at Dunkeld and Birnam Station.
