The journey to Littlehampton takes about an hour, and gives you chance to admire happy motorists queueing at suburban Worthing‘s infinite supply of railway barriers.

This was, inexplicably, my third trip to Littlehampton in six months, after a failed and then successful raid on the Steam Packet.

I distinctly remember looking at the Arun View back then and thinking “That looks a GBG pub” and perhaps it has been, and it is now.

A fairly typical Sussex community town pub, with dining area overlooking the river and sports bar with excellent breweriana.

The lads were dissecting Wolves and their smash and grab at the Etihad, which had not only seen the Prem awarded to the scousers but led to Sam Allardyce Graham Potter being lined up to replace Pep.
Depressing, so I headed to the lounge which had grandeur, charity boxes and the pumps.

And an old school Landlady who was quite marvellous, acknowledging me at the bar despite the demands of a 50th birthday party and making light of my pathetic attempt to hand my change over between two handpumps.
“Why’d they’d put those pumps in the way ?” Good question.
The regulation two Old Boys weren’t blocking the pumps either.

A pleasant Arundel Sussex (NBSS 3) in a thoroughly pleasant atmosphere, accompanied by what I guessed was a 50th birthday playlist.
Oddly, I’m 54 and I’d never heard Nights Over Egypt by The Jones Girls before. Perhaps Worthing had its own pop eco-climate.
That “excellent breweriana” must be the worst ever to come out of the factory on the edge of Wrexham.
