February 2025. Felpham. Bognor Regis. We’d headed down midweek to meet Joan and US Dave, two folk who could temporarily convince persuade you there are pockets of near sanity in America. By coincidence, we’d pick a similar self-catering style apartment south of Chichester, though our Boat House looks from the map as if it’s sited… Continue reading POSH BOGNOR – THE FOX, FELPHAM

BIGGING UP BOGNOR (SLIGHT RETURN)
Sitting waiting for a gig I’m Manchester, next to the country’s oldest pissoir, just enough time for a micro post on Bognors first micro. But first, Bognor, no more than ticking over in the last week of August. Blame the British summer. The Dog & Duck was already open when I arrived at 4.58. You… Continue reading BIGGING UP BOGNOR (SLIGHT RETURN)
“It’s closed today” texts Mrs RM
August 2023. Bognor Regis. I’d arranged to meet Mrs RM at the Dog & Duck for my penultimate West Sussex Guide tick at 4pm. What Pub said it opened at 4, the pub’s Facebook said 4. It must be true. On the walk back along the beach from the George, Mrs RM texted me “Closed… Continue reading “It’s closed today” texts Mrs RM
YOU GET A MORE POLITE SAUCY POSTCARD IN POSH BOGNOR
August 2023. Bognor Regis. I’ve said it before and every month brings fresh confirmation; the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2023 is a gem, packed with Proper Pubs that give a lie to the belief put about on Discourse that the GBG is all micros and brewery taps these days. Two new entries in Bognor Regis,… Continue reading YOU GET A MORE POLITE SAUCY POSTCARD IN POSH BOGNOR
BOGNOR – TICKING “THE ROCKS”
10p. Sounds much better than 2 shillings, doesn’t it ? Made a fair dent in a 14 year old’s pocket money when I took in my first ever “foreign” solo football match back in ’79. Frankly, by the 4th day of our family holiday in Bognor Butlins I was so desperate to escape I’d… Continue reading BOGNOR – TICKING “THE ROCKS”
ESTATE PUBS IN BOGNOR REGIS
Getting towards the end of the Sussex chapters in the Guide now, and a long-awaited return to lovely Bognor Regis, which shows you King George V and I weren’t separated at birth. Geographical purists (which I sense is all you) will no doubt this is Middleton-on-Sea not Bognor. Judge for yourself. It’s a 40 minute… Continue reading ESTATE PUBS IN BOGNOR REGIS
BIGGING UP BOGNOR – THE INGLENOOK
Last summer I revisited Bognor Regis and was astonished by the transformation of a Butlins I recall with horror from the Summer of ’79. The town itself was workaday, but at 8am it was redeemed by sunrise over the coast, and the memories of a classic Non-League ground. The town’s sole Beer Guide entry remains… Continue reading BIGGING UP BOGNOR – THE INGLENOOK
BACK TO BOGNOR
Finally managed to get the family camping this summer, a couple of nights near lovely Bognor. I can recommend Ecclesden Farm in Angmering for a cheap, picturesque site. It’s a working farm 10 minutes walk from an excellent pub (Spotted Cow) and 20 from a train connection with the rest of Sussex. I reckon the walks… Continue reading BACK TO BOGNOR
