SCOTCH EGG AND TRUFFLE FRIES AT GLYNDE’S TREVOR ARMS

October 2026. Glynde. East Sussex.

Mrs RM timed her walk around Glynde to return to the station just as the Trevor Arms opened for lunch.

On one side of the rails, the Steamworks bar-cum-coffee shop.

On the other, the flint-knapped Trevor, finally re-opened last year,

with cute but oddly non-Trevorish pub sign.

The first words you think of might be “chintzy” and “cushions”,

or “Brunning & Pricey”.

But there’s nothing wrong with a smart dining pub for polite society in the Lewes countryside, and you won’t get a better selection of Sussex micros.

There’s an on-site brewery as well, but the Longman beer was on keg and we missed it with the information overload. Gun and Burning Sky on cask were better than GOOD, though, and oddly I can live with a dimpled mug for a half, just not pints.

The budget diner may want to look away now;

Coming just a couple of hours after fudge brownie and Bakewell tart, the posh scotch egg (very Pint Shop) and truffle fries made for a gourmet diet-friendly lunch.

An eclectic soundtrack,

some great wall art,

and the friendliest, most welcoming staff of the year.

An absolute cert for the next GBG. Combine it with your visit to the “Marriage of Figaro”.

  1. I know its pretty gastro, but the pints and food look good. I started off thinking ‘those prices for fish n chips or pie werent too bad’, until I realised I was in the small eaters section.

Scotch egg at Kirkstalls Victoria, Leeds is in the same price bracket….

    1. Scott is right, but it was very good and you’re probably in the Top 1% expensive places of the UK in Glynde. Beer prices didn’t seem bad compared with east London (£7.10 pint of Sheps coming up).

  2. Those prices seem a bit ouch for normal wallets, and I start dreading the thought of how much local really upmarket places are going to be charging.
At that price for a scotch egg, I’d be expecting a complimentary malt with it.

      1. At least they are calling them crushed peas and not mushy peas. When I lived down south, a number of times I ordered fish, chips and mushy peas in hope but got squashed garden peas, which is almost certainly what they will be. On one occasion I mentioned it to the gastropub chef/cook who assured me that’s what mushy peas are.

      1. The brewery is scheduled to close next summer but a Proper Day Out could be well before that.
I had a day in Burton two months ago but one day isn’t enough.

  3. It is a most excellent pub. Rated 8 in my Pubs Galore just over a year ago and think it has got even better as am a frequent visitor. Up there with the best the Lewes postal district has to offer (Gardeners in Lewes centre). Great when a venue reopens after a long closure, so rare that you get such a good pub back in those circumstances. david W
