August 2023. Sheffield.
Breaking news overnight, as it emerges that Dave “US” Southworth, on “vacation” (holiday) in Kansas,

has never (zero times) seen The Wizard of Oz.
Along with Ferris Buellers Day Off, I’d assumed that Oz was prescribed viewing for all Americans, along with baggy “pants” and the consumption of grits at Denny’s.
You can’t be a real Sheffielder unless you were an extra in The Full Monty, race whippets on your allotment, and put Henderson Relish on everything.
I mention this because Hendos was the accompaniment of choice for my tea at the Dog & Partridge after that Abbot hunt on Thursday.

No idea why I chose the D & P. I think I was heading down to Fagan’s for Bass and got distracted.
Oh, look, there’s my favourite pub seat in Sheffield.

Yes, someone had taken it. Cheek.
The beers always seem a bit secondary to the banter and burgers here, and I should have had the Blue Bee to continue the alliteration, but someone was having the Abbeydale so I had to follow suit, it’s the first law of beer selection.

They’ve just reintroduced food service, a nice cheap pub grub menu on a proper blackboard.

I was asked a series of questions and said “Yes please” to all of them.

Tasty burger, beer (NBSS 3+) served in thick heavy glass, excellent soundtrack, weird humour focused on top reviews;

At the bar, a chap tells us he’s just seen a band he’d wanted to see for 15 years.
Which band ? The Who ? The Stones ? Kangaroo Air Force Ventilator ?
“The Zutons”.

Wait until tomorrow’s X! Great stuff coming. Heading to Mecca.

Mecca. If you find beer in Saudi let us know first.
Talking of Duluth, did you know that Alan and Mimi of Low were born there ?

I only knew that because I Google the bands you mention. Duluth is a fun town.

You picked a great place to move to -I can tell you enjoy exploring your environs & I am quite jealous .! I don’t want to live in a big city again but I would quite like to live close to Leeds or Sheffield. Sadly I am too lazy to up sticks so unless my offspring decides to move up North ,Maidstone it is

It’s hard work moving isn’t it, Pauline?
I think that first lockdown made up our minds about heading north, particularly with our two boys moving up as well.
Sheffield doesn’t feel like a big city, oddly.

The biggest move we did was down here 26 years ago & that was fun as we were (obviously ) younger & we had a new life to look forward to.I’m rather attached to our house now & we have so much “stuff ” .-Like you -if our lad moved we would definately at least try to follow !

I read from my local CAMRA branch newsfeed (Bradford) that the Yorkshire pub of the year is the Beer Engine in Skipdale (Skipton). I love the place, but is it even the best place in Skipton?
