MRS RM CRUELLY DENIED HER BIRTHDAY PINT OF 10.5% IMPERIAL STOUT

16/17th December 2022.

While 22 December is clearly the most important day in the year, it behoves a dutiful husband to remember his wife’s birthday and ensure she gets suitably plastered on high strength beer.

Mrs RM actually had two goes at that this year, joining James and I in the Walkley Beer Co on the 16th for some exceptional murk,

served by a wonderful barman I briefly mistook for Matthew Lawrenson.

Look what they’ve got coming soon;

Sadly, our day in Manchester on the Saturday was largely scuppered by a) the train strike, which meant I had to drive to the Marble Arch, and b) Matthew being laid low with man flu or whatever was sweeping the North West that week.

Never mind. First in the queue,

we were definitely getting lunch in one of the great pubs anywhere.

Honestly, is there anything more gorgeous ?

Mrs RM picked the beers, starting unusually low ABV, while I hit the bullesye with their signature burger and cheesy chips.

Mrs RM surveyed the pumps,

A pint of Decadence please“.

Sorry, we only sell it in thirds“. Blimey, it’s only 10.5%, practically a Boy’s Bitter these days.

I waited for Mrs RM to ask if it was because she was a girl, but she didn’t.

She enjoyed her third, anyway. It smelt wonderful.

  1. Just ask for a third of each of those four. Those barley wines appear to be 12.4%, which is a little strong for the style, but seems ok for a birthday drink.

    Please wish Christine belated Many Happy Returns of the Day.

  2. Clearly a top fella driving Mrs RM all the way to Manchester on her birthday. Assume she returned the favour and drove you home 🍻
