I have some very exciting announcements to make shortly about the GBG quest, and will probably run an exciting competition. Or not. In the meantime, here’s some more West Wales pubs.
Now, in the last month I’ve been to Aberdeen, but not The Grill; Guernsey, but not the new micro pub, and Pembrokeshire (twice), not the the Dyffryn (Bessie’s).

And that’s the downside of ticking; you go where the book takes you, not where your heart desires.
Bit is there really anywhere I’d rather have been that May day a month ago than the Ffynnone Arms in Newchapel ?

Well, the Dyffryn has a joyous atmosphere, the weight of history, and Bass from the jug.
But the Ffynnone is an unknown quantity in the Welsh hills, and I love that mystery.

First impressions; all-rounder for a village that doesn’t even register on Wiki, with pool and jukebox and TV over the fire.

Nice slate floor though, and a proper coffee machine behind the pumps.

Oh, and a photo of Welsh supergroup Gorky’s Zycotic Mynci.

I arrive expecting a busy pub, but it’s just me, with the landlady doing “stuff” in the cellar.
But when she does arrive at the bar, the pub bursts to life. I get the whole enthusiastic pitch for the pub, burger fest and all. “How much should a burger cost ?” she asks me. I was once asked whether Ya Ya Toure was paid too much at the Etihad by a bloke with a microphone and that was easier to answer.
The Gower Gold is the NBSS 3+ prescribed by law, a couple of ladies who Prosecco turn up and head for the garden, all is well with the world.
“How much for the Double Diamond lantern ?” I ask.

But she’s gone.
Beautiful pub. You know your finish date and location don’t you?

Forget your Bass livery – DD is the true sign of a proper pub.

The DD lantern is genuine and about fifty years old but the Worthington mirror looks to be from that factory in Wrexham.
