Just some nice photos of pubs for you this morning, to remind you of your duty to get out and save pubs today.
Shamefully, we only stopped in Gail’s posh cafe for a flat white and this cake which we’ve become quite addicted to lately.
We almost walked off the 477 calories walking from Verulamium Park into the beautifully pedestrianised town centre and back.
Our approved comfort break came in the Waterend Barn, which Mrs RM had never seen before. Is this the best Spoons ?
Dunno.
But I reckon the run of pubs down Fishpool to St Michaels Street might be one of the most picturesque in the land.
But if you want to read about the pubs themselves, you’ll have to look here .

Though sadly a shadow of its former self, with the Cock & Flowerpot, Royal Oak, and Crow (none of which recall experiencing) and the Unicorn, Blue Anchor and Black Lion (which fondly do), all gone.

Good point. Two of those remain as houses opposite each other, taunting us with their signage. Forget which.

The Blue Anchor and Black Lion are the two you thinking of.

Lovely photos of St Albans.
The Rose & Crown in St Michaels is reported as closed on two pub websites: WhatPub (https://whatpub.com/pubs/SHE/715/rose-crown-st-albans) and Pubs Galore (https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/14870/), and it’s marked as permanently closed on Google too. This is sad for me as I remember drinking in there with my grandfather – though after his death, my grandmother switched allegiance to the Six Bells. (Maybe this started a general trend, leading to the pub’s eventual demise.) Last time I was there it seemed rougher than previously, and “rough” is not a characteristic usually associated with St Michaels Village. RIP

We are heading to St Albans on Saturday so we will do our best pubwise -unfortunately we have to head to Harpenden in the evening to see The Fishermans Friends (don’t judge ) I think we would possibly prefer to stay in St Albans -it looks nice !
