It’s seven days till we can go INSIDE a pub again, lads and lasses. Trips to the loo don’t count. I need a good term to describe May 17th, really, after the Glorious 12th became such a hit.
Kevin Rowland sang about his keenness to return to his local Bearwood Ember Inn back in 1980;
The chap in the front with the giant suitcase full of Beer Guides, half-baked plans to visit the Birmingham Senior League grounds and a moth is a youthful Duncan.
Writing about meeting Jeff (sp ?) in Buxton this morning reminds me it’s two years since that trip.
On that occasion we managed to get Ian “Bass” Wickingman off the Bass and onto Tetley, a promising Black Country microbrew.
Just in time for the Proper return of pubs, the Bass seems to have run out, at least in its spiritual home of the North East.
But pubs aren’t about beer, they’re about banter, and not just the sort of bloke banter you get on the Beer and Pubs Forum.
By far the highlight of the Buxton trip was the cultural melting pot which was the Monk.
Even Curry Charles felt welcome, and he’s Scottish.
Let the countdown commence.

Not sure why we couldn’t wait a few more days,but we are venturing into that London on Thursday -think we just wanted to have a look whilst it is still a bit quiet Lunch booked at Founders Arms (just looked at their menu -eek – the meal must be served up on a silver platter ! ) not sure where else we will venture -I have already been fretting about the availability of toilets as not so easy no nip into a pub .We are looking forward to it though & who knows -we may go again when all open !

& all ordered by App -a steep learning curve -had to do this on Folkestone harbour arm last week -in the sunshine I was tapping away under the table as I couldn’t see the screen in the sun -nobody else seemed to have this problem !

Just wanted to second this. What a lovely photo, and this indeed is what we all long for, and will newly appreciate once we’re able to: sitting indoors, face to face, with anyone we care to sit with.

Remembering all too well the ‘disagreement’ with another Martin about the highlight of the day on the Crewe Proper Day Out I hesitate to mention that the highlight of the Buxton trip for me was undoubtedly the Swan.
