A dull but necessary post needs some click-bait, and what better click-bait than a badly served Porter confusingly decanted into a Bass glass.
This was my 5 litre takeaway from Star Wing Brewery, over on the right side of the Suffolk/Norfolk border.

The A143 out from Bury St Edmunds to Diss isn’t a BAD road. Just a dull one.
Unless you like potteries and ancient churches.

“There are thirteen hatchments, more than any other church in Suffolk” says an excited Wiki of this one.
St Mary’s, a mile out of Redgrave, is redundant, which means there’s still a hope it could be turned into a Wetherspoons.

My new GBG entry is over the road, with a nice view back to St Mary’s.

And this is where it gets interesting for the GBG ticker.

Star Wing is open, full steam ahead filling barrels of their award winning beer.

But their Tap Room hasn’t reopened, much to the disappointment of this group of tickers (possibly).

But I stood in the courtyard, I talked to an actual brewer, I bought a 5 litre pin* of the strongest beer possible, I claimed my tick and finished Suffolk’s GBG entries. What more could I have done ?

Mrs RM and I had to wait a day for the pin to “drop bright”, or whatever the geeky word is.
Drinking at home is a mortal sin. UNLESS you drink it with a friend, in Bass glasses, in one sitting.

It was absolute nectar, but the drinking in one session rule might need revisiting when the Pub Tickers AGM finally meets.
*Bottle DO NOT count
The bikers (I presume from the outfits) seem to be admiring the nice selection of kegs for possible sale. I’d be worried about what he was up to if that were Simon…

The 5L minikeg/cask/pin has been our saviour during lockdown. Took delivery of one from Pig & Porter today.

The Pig & Porter beer is very similar in range to this lot.

Hugely controversial. I understand an emergency motion has been tabled by the Newmarket branch. Is the man in the middle filling up those barrels? The bakery has reopened so you will need to go back anyway.

I believe Baa Baa Toure has registered a vote in Martin’s favour…

It’s practically the closest new entry to me (55 mins) away so could pop back and do a bakery/tap revisit when it does re-open.

That’s the spirit. Lawyers are likely to take that into a count.

It can only be drunk in one sitting surely??

Actually it dragged into a second night, but Mrs RM was worse for wear on Monday morning. Those kegs will keep beer fresh for a few days.

“and what better click-bait than a badly served Porter confusingly decanted into a Bass glass”
And both just to the bottom of the triangle. Very artistic that.
“The A143 out from Bury St Edmunds”
Bury St Edmunds. For some reason I just really like that name.
“There are thirteen hatchments, more than any other church in Suffolk”
Hatchments? Is that where they make new churches?
“with a nice view back to St Mary’s.”
(slow golf clap) 🙂
“And this is where it gets interesting for the GBG ticker.”
Yikes!
“much to the disappointment of this group of tickers (possibly).”
I thought they were the security for the kegs.
“What more could I have done ?”
Tapped it right there?
“Drinking at home is a mortal sin.”
Don’t want to go to heaven anyway. Rumour has it they have no beer. 🙂
“It was absolute nectar, but the drinking in one session rule might need revisiting when the Pub Tickers AGM finally meets.”
Pfft. That’s barely 4 pints each. AND it’s only 5.4%! (sheesh)
Cheers

Bury St Edmunds is where they buried St Edmunds (true). They obviously thought it was an appropriate place for a funeral, even though he came from Stoke.

Yes, not many people realised that Edmund moved from Stoke to eastern pastures new as much of North Staffordshire was being lost to plum orchards.

I found out this week that Star Wing have a stall on Bury St Edmunds market very Wednesday. Bought a few bottles this week and will start stocking for Christmas next – 5L of porter for me and 5L of an IPA for daughter’s OH. And a few more bottles. Their beers are stonkingly good and the porter id the best.

Really excellent Porter but shan’t be repeating that on a nightly basis.
