THREE HORSE SHOES

My return to pubbing has been a joy, but there’s slim pickings in terms of new GBG ticks within a 3 hour radius. The closest new Guide pub to me (York’s Gillygate) is actually yards from BRAPA Towers. And that was closed as well.

On a whim, I stopped in Boroughbridge.

Boroughbridge

A stately little place with gentlefolk admiring the Morrison’s supermarket (no cask), bridal shops and Roman heritage.

Wheel cask dispense

LOADS of cyclists roaring over the Ure, none of them stopping at the still iconic Three Horse Shoes.

Gorgeous

Mrs RM and I stayed at the rather more foody Black Bull in 1997,

but my memory of the Horse Shoes was a giant pumpkin, best in class at Thirk Fayre. Funny what sticks in the mind.

Nothing has changed.

Oooh,Theakston

Apart from the “No Standing at the Bar” sign, Morrison’s hand wash and visitors book.

I can live with those changes. The Gents is still (sort of) outside, and the Theakston is £2.40.

Yum

I’ll repeat that. The Theakston was £2.40. I’m sure it must have been nearly £2 in 1997.

Enjoy it’s progress down my grateful mouth, rather than over the pot plants.

Gone

Sometimes, life is just perfect. Even outside the Good Beer Guide.

    1. The only beer I’ve left, out of 41 beers in 45 pub visits, was that Wolf in Cambridge Spoons. No 🌿 pot sadly.

Beer quality dipped a little since that first golden week but still averaging well over NBSS3. I’ll report in the Stocktake as I know you care.
