Short posts as I’m on the move, and my battery is dropping fast.
On my drive into Gosport this morning I saw some stunning pub porn I knew you’d want to see. ..

That one is open.
The Royal Oak and whatever the Premier was are long dead. #pubmuderers

Since I’d stopped, I found the obligatory enthusiastic sweet shop and asked for a fivers worth of cough candy.

Outside, the old boy said “You first, Squire”.
Which raises 3 questions.
Which squire do I most look like?
Does “fivers worth” need an apostrophe?
Where on earth is Brockworth?

Blakes Brewery in Gosport was acquired by Brickwoods in 1926.

Martin, how can you possibly taste your beer, after scoffing all that cough candy?

He doesn’t have to taste it, it’s usually Doom Bar.

It’s sweet shops not pubs that the Health lobby should be targeting.

Taste is a highly overrated component of beer, Paul.
The key ingredients are water, hop oils, and a price tag below £2 with your CAMRA cheap beer voucher.

You are a tease Martin, especially as you know I will strongly disagree with that assessment. You won’t find any brewers of that opinion either!
So in the spirit of returning the wind-up, good beer is to be appreciated and enjoyed – preferably in the company of friends and like-minded people. It is not some cheap commodity intended to be consumed in swift halves, before rushing off to the next “tick.” Ouch!! 😉

I agree with at least 120% of what you say, Paul.
A pint shared in a proper pub with Pauls and Peters and Charles and Citras etc is the best way to appreciate beer.

That “Blake’s Ales & Stout From The Wood” suggests that much Hampshire beer by the mid 1920s was from metal casks which I wouldn’t have expected.
