Yes, it’s that Albion Rovers flag again. They have supporters everywhere.
Next stop, Haltwhistle (pop.3,811), the Wirkworth or Llanidloes of the North, or something.

Excitingly, not only did I edge closer to completing Northumberland; I also ventured into the hitherto barely explored north Cumbria, and returned unscathed.
Only a third trip to the Halt, or the Whistle, or whatever they call it. It’s the centre of Britain, you know, And they really want you to know.

This is also the place with the cheapest pint in Britain a few years back, probably in one of the seemingly never-ending array of clubs.

GBG-wise it’s been the Black Bull or nothing recently, and that was up “To let”.

It’s still quite a lively town, albeit smaller than Waterbeach, with folk coming from miles to admire the shop fonts.

But the Dutch and German walkers come to walk Hadrian’s Wall.

I met the Utrecht Two at the foot of that field, and was able to give them the unwelcome news that the Wall itself was a good 20 minutes up the hill, rather further than the helpful TIC had suggested.
“Enjoy the sheep” I said. Which didn’t help.

My pub was out of town too.

Greenhead appears to consist of a church, a pub and a primary school. Apart from a Chinese takeaway and a 99p stores, what more do you need ?

The Greenhead Hotel has seemingly changed hands, but I bet these are the same ladies who’ve lunched here for years. Perhaps the introduction of White Winter Hymnal to the playlist is new, though.

The banter is instructive.
“Oooh, sticky toffee pudding !”
“You had scampi LAST time !”

Good for them. Some gentlefolk live well up here.
None of them were drinking the ale (of course).

So it wasn’t that surprising my Corby Blonde wasn’t as cool and crisp as you’d hope; you’d guessed that already.
But the good news is that, just for a change, you haven’t missed the Meat Loaf tribute act yet.

Not sure I could name any hits by Lady Antebellum 🤔

“They have supporters everywhere.”
I don’t see any over here in Campbell River.
“It’s the centre of Britain, you know, And they really want you to know.”
The 2002 Ordnance survey would differ. 🙂
“Classic”
Surely those hanging plant pots are too froo-froo for a working men’s club?
“and that was up “To let”.”
Pfft. Some cheeky bugger (wise to the ways of the Carry On movies) merely stole the ‘i’ between ‘o’ and ‘l’. 😉
“with folk coming from miles to admire the shop fonts.”
Surely you mean shop ‘fronts’?
“View from not quite the wall”
Ah. I thought that white thingy in the background was the wall.
““Enjoy the sheep” ”
Blimey! Brave man. Some would have taken that entirely the wrong way. 🙂
“Apart from a Chinese takeaway and a 99p stores, what more do you need ?”
That’s almost… deep.
“but I bet these are the same ladies who’ve lunched here for years.”
Judging by their appearance, years indeed. 🙂
“None of them were drinking the ale (of course).”
To be fair, I don’t think ale goes well with either scampi or sticky toffee pudding. 😉
“But the good news is that, just for a change, you haven’t missed the Meat Loaf tribute act yet.”
Why are only Jovi and Antebellum capitalised?
And with that I have to sadly say I’m still AWOL from posting for a bit. I thought I’d back in full swing after our holidays ending July 25th but things have a been a bit hectic since then. Some of it’s best left to imparting over an ale in person (and no,it’s nothing like ‘fireman’ in Berlin!). Most of it revolves around having relatives from out of town stay with us while their loved one (and our first cousin) is in the local hospital recovering from emergency surgery almost two weeks ago resulting from stage 4 cancer. They are hoping to get him well enough to leave and go home so that he can die peacefully there surrounded by all the family. 😦
I’ll get back to posting when all of this gets sorted out. To be honest my muse isn’t in top from at present.
Cheers
