GLYNDE – BORN AGAIN ?

October 2026. Glynde. East Sussex.

194 residents, four blog posts. Glynde made quite an impression on us last Thursday.

After completing the Sussex GBG entries at Steamworks we headed towards Glyndebourne to discover exactly how out-of-place we’d look if we turned up at “The Marriage of Figaro” in our definition of “smart casual wear“, covered in cow dung.

What a beautiful little village, one rail stop out of Lewes, chalk and clay pits all around.

Genuinely, every house here a gem;

the working blacksmiths and post office standouts.

Even the social club is Grade II listed, and was clearly the social centre point of the village (ignoring the opera house) till very recently.

“Since the Trevor Arms closed there isn’t much else in the village” says the CAMRA website, but with the arrival of Steamworks and the reopening of the Trevor (patience) all is change.

I expect the Little Cottage Tea Room will be adding Verdant to the Harvey’s bottles soon.

As I was saying.

There’s even a brewery, of sorts,

If they’ve any spare capacity from all that kombucha perhaps they could take on the Bass contract.

  1. It is amazing how many beautiful new places pop up when you consider how much you have traveled in England. Always one great new one around the corner.

    1. Yes indeed Dave.
      Three years ago one rail stop out of Lewes, but southwards rather than eastwards, had me in Southease which was great except for the noisy A26 necessitating earplugs in my room. The Queen was there ten years earlier, the same day as Miles Jenner showed her round Harvey’s Brewery.
