BHAJIS, BROTHERS AND BARGAIN SHEFFIELD PINTS

October 2026. Sheffield.

Heeley marks the start of Sheffield’s antiques quarter and the long road to Chesterfield. Reddit describes it (unfairly) as the “lentil belt”, less posh than Sharrow Vale to the west, and (if you’re fit) walking distance to the station.

I reckon the two pubs just up the hill, either side of the city farm, would grace any city, but don’t get the attention of Kelham Island or the Tap/Rutland/Fargate near the station.

I’ve named it a Top 100 pub, and raved about the live music, family atmosphere and bargain pints.

The only thing I can say against the Brothers Arms is that sign, but it certainly is more characterful than pub signage which consists solely of the pub name.

The multi-room interior is very Sheffield,

the beer range wide,

and the snack cupboard (giant Pipers bags above) a match for anywhere.

Russ and his mates seem shocked by the prices; well under £4 for quality cask. I add a bhaji to my pint of Pictish (chewy, VERY GOOD) for a quid, and smother it in Spice Magic raita.

The bench seating is perfect for a group, one of whom gets out a bag of bhajis and samosas he’s smuggled up from Ealing that morning.

I really shouldn’t have sneaked a bite of West London bhaji, but I had to mop up that raita, didn’t I ?

      1. The Pig on the Wall was drinking well considering that it was the last one out of the cask.
That’s what I had just had in the Bird in Hand though a group of PubMen from Liverpool, Macclesfield Warrington and Milton Keynes were a bit more adventurous.
