TICKING THE TICKERS AT THE SHEAF VIEW

October 2026. Heeley.

Now I’ve ticked the pubs (and the football grounds) there’s a need (possibly a male need, anyone ever met a female GBG ticker or groundhopper) to find a new pursuit.

The sensible thing would be Curryheute‘s recommended curry houses; some great locations on his list.

Closer to home, I’m trying to tick the tickers, and meet the folk who read my ramblings, if only to prove they aren’t a data farm in Corby.

Russ Neil, top Altrincham fan and all-round sensible bloke, was comparing notes on the current Sheffield pub “scene” (ugh) and offered a catch-up at Heeley’s GBG perennials last Friday.

You’ll know how keen I am to be somewhere, anywhere, else to where I am. But I will never turn down the chance to talk to new people in pubs, particularly if I can combine it with a walk past the goats of Heeley City Farm.

Meeting Russ and his Hull Uni mates (and brother) at the Sheaf View also means I get to stretch my legs on the descent through Park Grange,

nab a table near the bar,

and admire the Sheaf’s impressive sporting library.

More pubs should stock old copies of Wisden; what could be better than reading old Northampton CCC scorecards over a pint of Neepsend Blonde ?

Well, chatting football and pubs with half a dozen pint drinkers from around the country, I guess. I didn’t go to Uni myself, but I like the idea of mates meeting up for an annual Proper Pub Day Out. Must try it myself.

The Sheaf itself was a bit quiet early on, but can clearly supports a classic beer range of which the Wylam Jakehead was the star.

I would have left them to their reunion right here, but frankly was enjoying the chat about Bexleyheath SO much I led them up the hill to the Brothers.
