May 2026. Bradford.

Time flies. Five years ago I was sitting outside the Jacobs Well (aka Beer House aka Jacobs etc etc), waiting for BRAPA to be vaccinated.
Simon was able to confirm that beer actually boosts the effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine, or was it Sputnik ?
I was BRAPA’s DES that momentous day, so I hadn’t joined him in Jacobs, one of a handful of “trad Brad” GBG entries.

So I left the £50 a night luxury of the Midland Hotel for a Sunday evening pint of Dark Mild,

a rich NBSS 4,

and found a locals pub still in rich in character and banter.

Darts, blokes watching the Snooker final on their phone,

a tray of uneaten cheese sarnies. All signs of a Proper Pub, though in truth it’s pub you go to with mates for best effect.

Yes, yes, BRAPA would have stolen a sandwich in 2021, but back in those dark days we weren’t completely sure whether cheese would dullen the benefit of the COVID vaccine. And you can’t be too careful.
Good for Jacob. And the same for Taff of these parts.

Taffs Well is a place, isn’t it ? Is there a pub ?

Yes, Taff’s Well is very much a place Martin, with the Taff’s Well Inn and Fagin’s Craft place, according to, ahem, “the comprehensive listing site for pubs & pub lovers of all persuasions” (but not for those – even if a small minority – who like dadaist pub reviews apparently, so that would appear to be a claim too far imo.)

No salad garnish around the sandwich plate, what a let down.

The salad was the best of it, Lana. That’s why there’s only cheese sarnies remaining !
