INTRODUCING CHICAGOANS TO SHEFFIELD CULTURE

I’ve never been to Chicago (or Minneapolis), but it’s been on my Bucket List since Ferris took us there on his day off forty (40) years ago.

Yes, yes, press PLAY now.

Having had their bit of Peak on Saturday, Sunday was for culture.

No, not whippets and Hendos, not even the Park Hill flats, but an aimless wander round the centre for a few hours,

starting at the underrated Cathedral. I mean, it’s not got the medieval feel of Peterborough or Lincoln, closer to the modernity of Blackburn (honest), but it’s colourful and rambling and you won’t be pounced on by volunteers.

We scooted past the inevitable protest (pro-Trump, inevitably), and showed off the glossy new food court and pavements, which particularly impressed Dave (again, honestly).

Lily Allen was in town that weekend;

our musical entertainment would come later that night.

For now, we enjoyed the buskers of The Moor and the art of Phlegm (great band name),

and tried to get Mrs RM to apply for a late bid at stardom.

The heart of Sheffield has the big fountains and the winter gardens, and a string of museums covering everything from steel to reel to reel.

Almost as old as the car we admired in Kelham later.

But our cultural highlight came when the chap below asked us to video his Karate routine.

The longer video is available to Patronised readers.

  1. Your Chicago buddies are certainly getting their money’s worth. I have always wanted to go to Chicago because of an 80s movie set there too “Girls just wanna have fun.” There is a competition to be regulars on Dance TV cue comedy, dance, gymnastic style moves, revenge tactics, strict army father. Right up my street. Re the guy you filmed, wish I could have seen him flying through the air.
