PERSEVERING WITH MASTER BREW IN THE SUN, FAVERSHAM

December 2025. Faversham.

Back in Faversham from Herne, and an early tea on Mrs RM’s eve of birthday.

The Sun isn’t in the GBG, but it had the most convincing menu,

and it pays to treat a girl to somewhere nice, once or twice. Apparently.

NOT a heritage pub by CAMRA definition, but 14th century and heavily beamed will do for most of North Kent’s gentlefolk.

Not a Mudgie pub, then ?” you say, looking at those armchairs, but it’s just the sort of seating for young women catching up over large glasses of Shiiraz, and diners weren’t over-dominating this Tuesday night.

So, a good chance to test the Sheps as close as I’ll get to source,

and sadly the Master Brew is a bit of a thin squib, struggling to break out of that nondescript glass.

A shame, that “proper” glassware at Rye Harbour really brought out the texture.

But….a second pint was slightly richer (NBSS 3+), a mix of squid, hake and burger were top draw,

and the young staff were wonderfully cheery. And I shall never get bored of telling you how great young folk in hospitality are.

  1. We stayed four nights at the Sun and were quite well treated. Food good, staff excellent, and the pub quite nice each evening. Beer as you describe and we tended to hit the bottled versions of the SN beers. Nice place to stay in Faversham though.
