OCTOBER ’25 STOCKTAKE + NOVEMBER PREVIEW

Another typical month of dashing between home and care home, with odd diversions from the route to tick a few Midlands and London pubs.

Thirty-seven different pubs in October sounds pathetic, but there were also a bakers dozen in Romania to start the month,

and if it had been in St Georges (Somerset) rather than Sfantu Gheorge (Transylvania) then Szimpla‘s ruin pub would have walked Pub of the Month.

As it was, I think the Art Deco Duke wins it for London,

though Sheffield’s bran’ new Thornbridge flagship has a shout, and that first pint of Jaipur in the Fargate got the best score.

Sadly, you can’t score Orval.

We’d sneaked a week touring Romania, Sighisoara the highlight,

a bittersweet trip that reminded us how much we love European travel and how limited the opportunities will be for a while with parental decline.

But one thing the UK has that Europe struggles with; a proper Chinese takeaway with Australian red drunk out of a Sheffield beer festival pint glass.

November ? November is me being the only Old Bloke singing along to this in London next week

  1. I emphasise with you both over the care home duties, but as Mrs PBT’s would say, you’ll get your own special place in heaven.

She isn’t religious, btw, but paying a little back to one’s parents, after all they’ve done for you, is the least any child can do.

Internet connectivity has been restored, for a short while, but we’ll be sailing ⛵️ away from Madeira early evening, next stop Oporto.

Lots of catching up when I get back to the UK.

I think I often do less, though a night in Manchester last month got me up to 41 pubs, and my fourth pint of the proper new Boddingtons.
