WATERBEACH OR BRADFORD ? WHICH IS THE CAPITAL OF CURRY ?

October 2025. Waterbeach.

Can I get the blog up-to-date before month-end ? Worth a go.

While BRAPA reminds me of that glorious Summer of 2022 as he conquers the Scottish isles,

I’m condemned to an eternal journey betwixt Sheffield and Waterbeach, wondering which is truly home.

I’m alternating the 3 hour trips between train and campervan, using the ‘Beach as a base for London and Chung Hwa (as good as ever, and I never lie about things as important as beer and Chinese takeaway quality).

Waterbeach is going through an interesting phase while it waits for the New Town to be completed (due in late 2013, I think).

Over on the A10 at Sylheti Spice (aka Bollywood Spice aka Slap Up) you’ll get those traditional Bangladeshi dishes that Americans travel 2,000 miles for.

Chung Hwa will sell you Thai or Chinese style curries to be eaten with makeshift utensils on a table of your choice.

And the other pubs have had vans selling Biryani and similar recently.

But your best curry bet, as good as anything Bratfud has to offer, comes with a stellar pint of Landlord.

A year ago I couldn’t have imagined being so smitten with the White Horse, but Ghurka grub and GBG standard cellarmanship have won me over.

Goat curry, spinach and cottage cheese, peshwari naan

Is that a teapot, Retired Martin ?

Yep, I know to have Days Off these days (or I’d be in Bradford right now ticking the newbie out west and visiting Kashmir), and black Nepalese tea is the perfect accompaniment.

Who am I kidding ? It’s back to the Landlord (NBSS 4) tomorrow. Get it in the GBG, Cambridge CAMRA.
