A week ago I was trudging through the back streets of Finsbury towards Angel in the relentless drizzle of an English December,

suddenly aware this charming little bit of North London was unexplored by me,

though the George & Monkey looked familiar.

An early start at the Lexington, a 200 capacity stalwart of the new music scene that was squeezing in a club night after the annual End of the Road Christmas party, which is the only Christmas party you’ll get on this blog.

“The bar specialises in bourbon, as well as American craft beer.” says Wiki, and sure enough;

The Southworth twins have been raving about Pabst Blue Ribbon for years, “almost as good as Carling” said Dave.

As I was saying.

I switched back to UK craft for my last pint of the night. A 200 capacity venue like the Lex majors on cans, and note how you get proper murk from the UK.

Proper murky musings from the End of the Road party too. Poetry, noise, and some free-form jazz from Orchestra (For Now) who impressed the only other bloke over 50, a chap who’d moved from Dorset to Angel and was keen to chat about the Square and Compasses all night.
Yes, it’s not just young folk and pashmina mums who chat over the music.
That’s a proper facade on the Catholic church. St. Thérèse of Lisieux is one of my favourite saints.

Jon might need to correct me but I think Bourbon has more of a biscuity taste than whiskey.

Bourbon whiskey is made from mash that consists of at least 51% corn (maize). Other whiskeys are made from mash which is different using either rye, malted rye, malted barley or wheat.

You’ve never truly understood excellence in brewing! I am curious. Did they consider the Pabst an American craft beer?

I think it’s a very big brand take on US craft (they had that Big Wave as well as Stone), and Pabst is a bit of an ironic pick, isn’t it ?

My first brewery tour was Pabst in 1978. The pretzels were good and the beer(?) was as good as I could get at the time.

I’m sorry about your Pabst experience(s). Here in the states we don’t care much for it. College students brought it back to popularity because it was dirt cheap and better than other cheap options. Unfortunately it is no longer cheap. Hard to understand why anyone would keep choosing it other than sheer nostalgia.
In the same pic I saw Sierra Nevada and Stone Brewing taps. Two of my go tos. Great selections here with both beer makers. Cheers!
