June 2024. Huddersfield.
My three hours in Hudders (as no-one except BRAPA calls it) was fair whizzing along, and I suddenly realised a 3rd pint without food was a very bad idea,

and while I knew the estimable Grove had a good snack menu, Biltong and Pipers wasn’t as sensible as a proper meal in Spoons, and you’ll know how sensible you get at age 59.

Actually, the Lord Wilson was a very stupid idea, as it meant I missed out on a real classic like the Sportsman or the Sam Smiths. But…8/10 carpets,

the possibility of a pre-emptive tick (ALL Spoons make the Guide eventually) and a general perverseness meant I had to do it.
It’s one of those “secondary town Spoons” that like to make it look like they’re keen on cask by sticking old pump clips to a blackboard and jars full of barley (whatever that’s got to do with beer !).

Just a shame it was Tuesday not Wednesday…

In fairness, that’s a decent JDW line-up, and a tortuous choice between Wobbly Bob and Old empire ensued, with the Bob winning because a) it’s more local and b) it’s stronger, obvs.
It was a duff choice. Should have had a crafty can.

Or a lemonade.
Wobbly Bob was very wobbly, almost floppy in the heat (NBSS 2). Worse, I compounded my error by ordering the Old empire with my Katsu curry, missing out on the 50p discount that saves real ale,

and ending up with two (2) flabby half-finished pints side-by-side.

I could have took either of those back, to be fair, but not when you’ve drunk a third over half the pint.
Could I redeem the day at this late stage ?
That’s an unvisited Spoons I very easily walked past during my 2019 days in Huddersfield. One of my top four pubs there was the Vulcan which opened mid morning.

I’d happily meet up again with you and anyone to do some more Huddersfield pubs, Paul.

Martin, Yes, I’d love to return to the Vulcan (9am), Commercial Hotel (11am), Sportsman (noon) and a few others.

Probably the 1969 hit version by Diana Ross & the Supremes plus the Temptations, actually.

WordPress is getting as flabby as your Wobbly Bob, apparently. Despite having ticked the sign in screen I’m still unable to like any comments, and I’ve also been signed out.
I’m back again!

Judging by the mobility scooters I sometimes wonder if it’s actually possible to walk to a Spoons.
Agreed about WP incidentally too Will. Are the Russians hacking it?

I don’t know what makes you think that.
