ONE NIGHT IN LISBON

March 2024. Lisbon. Portugal.

Yes, just the night in Lisbon to end 7 days in Portugal. I find I’m getting worried about my parents after a week; I guess it gets no easier.

We made the best of those 36 hours; walking up and down the Old Town till Mrs RM complained bitterly.

Cais do Sodre station is the heart of the city by the Tagus, but frankly nowhere in Lisbon was that packed (till we got to Belem the next morning), and even famous Pink Lane was quiet early evening.

Very reminiscent of Thessaloniki with its umbrellas and big beer advertising.

We had an early supper in the vast Time Out (yes, that Time Out) food mall, very Mackie Mayor, where the excellent burger and fries cost £15 so I guess they’re pitching at the cruise market.

Most of the drinkers seemed to be in cafes, notably the legendary A Brasileira,

Mrs RM got told off here; she’d always getting told off. Sound like anyone else you know.

The crowds thinned out as the ascent got harder, and by the time we reached our Untappd tip, O Purista.

What’s that you say ? Looks more like a barbers ?

Indeed it is, 19 euros to you sir. Yes, the Gallaghers of the south.

I was beginning to doubt its beer credentials too,

but they had a few beers from Hoppy House on, again quite thin.

But a lovely, classy, place,

and there’s nothing more exciting in a pub than watching a bloke have a skin fade. Just ask Matt.

We walked and walked and walked, to the top of the elevator (top) for the view to the fortress, and the city seemed to make sense.

Not too posh, clean and safe, packed with delights for the architecture lover.

I have no idea what the cactus is doing.
