March 2024. Robin Hood’s Bay.
An overnighter in Whitby, then a trip down the coast via breakfast bacon baps at Botham’s bakery, which is my best alliteration since yesterday.
Maltmeister had insisted I have a Botham’s,
so while Mrs RM fitted in a work call in the Marston’s motel I nipped out to the actual bakery, where a sausage roll goes for 90p.
Yum.
A chance for Mrs RM to put in the steps (again) and make her first visit to the Southwold or Rye of the North for 22 years as the mist cleared and blue skies returned for the first time in March.
Well, the Bay isn’t that big, but six (6) entries on What Pub suggests a fair amount of trade,
though sadly the Dolphin hasn’t re-emerged from Covid yet.
You come for the views not the pubs,
though the Laurel is a corker (I think, 22 years is a long time),
Look at those stickers !
The world’s oldest charity donation box, apparently.
Or at least, the oldest in the shape of a fish.
Really great walking,
and such a shame the pub at the bottom wasn’t open till noon…
I can confirm that the Laurel is still a great pub.

Must be good then. Incredibly cheap goods and coffee from the bakery.

Its a lovely 7 mile walk from Whitby to Robin Hood’s Bay along the Cleveland Way. A great way to spend a few hours and earn a pint at the end.

And I can confirm that the Bay Hotel in the top photo is where I spent my honeymoon.
As did Mrs Mudgie.
