ALL THE PUBS IN THE MANCHESTER BEER BOOK No. 6 – BUNDOBUST BREWERY

February 2024. Manchester.

Another stressful Saturday afternoon at the Etihad, another catch-up with my lad, another pub tick in Matt Curtis’s excellent guide to the city’s pubs and bars.

Arriving at Piccadilly feeling knackered I fancied something fresh and healthy, and the Marhaba curry place is closed weekends, which is a tragedy.

But those Bundobust modern beer bars always do the job.

The bonus is a walk along the canal from the station, always a joy.

Even if not one for the purist.

It’s the second Bundobust on studenty Oxford Road that’s also made the GBG this year, even though their own tasty beers are keg (I think), and there’s lone cask pump (Track Sonoma).

It’s the lentils and dosa and okra fries you come for,

and those little pots of unidentifiable salad,

and although I’d promised myself a dry day I succumbed to a schooner of the Ekla, which again I thought was a little carbonated for my taste.

Long trestle tables, quick service, friendly young staff. They probably even offer tasters, but I’ll forgive them that.

Is it possible to like a pub where the beer is secondary to you ? I think it is. Next time I’ll have the mango lassi and promise to drink beer afterwards.

  1. The last couple of times I’ve been in they’ve had a collaboration beer with Thornbridge called Galaxy/Simcoe on one of the handpumps. The Liverpool outlet had another Thornbridge colllab called Golden Ale on a handpump late last year. Both were good.

  2. Love Bundo, wish there was one up here. The brewery was the last place we ate out before the Boy came along, it was fab and I honestly can’t wait to go back!
