February 2024. Sheffield.
One more report from a quiet Wednesday afternoon with Sheffield Hatter, where he forces me at gunpoint to join him in a third pub of the day that I didn’t need to go in, but am glad he did.
Some of you have asked what my photos look like before they’re cleaned up with my hi-tech camera editing, so here’s Will saying “no surreptitious photography, RM” outside the Albion.
On the way in Will gave me the history of the Albion, Stancil’s remaining pub, but you know what I’m like with history; forgot already.
The only history I’m bothered about is the little bit I recorded at 4.30pm on a Wednesday in February, when the Albion seemed to be the classic example of an unsung wet-led Sheffield town pub.
It helped that the Stainless was drinking remarkably well (NBSS 4), rather better than in the Closed Shop when Stancil ran it if I’m honest,
and if it gets (back) in the Guide after quite an absence then Simon is in for a treat.
The Gents are a gem, too,
whether for the art or the 1750 fireplace that Will pointed out for me.
See ! I do take note of SOME history.
Cracking South Yorkshire boozer – with authentic man with flat cap.
Great history – especially the bit about Trump!…
…it is history, isn’t it?

Don’t rest easy. The electoral college is unforgiving.

If you can raise $500 can you stand against him as an independent or on of those odd “write-in” candidates. I’m sure Dick would vote for you. Joan, who knows ?

Very authentic atmosphere, and incredibly cheery. And blokes (like us) only staying for a pint or two. Cracking pub, probably the best option close to Bramall Lane.
