September 2023. Brasted, Kent.
A last Kent pub for now, before we leave my father-in-law thankfully in recovery mode. Next time down south I WILL attempt to find something nice to say about Sevenoaks (I won’t).
Brasted IS technically in Sevenoaks, just up the A25 from the council recycling centre where Mrs RM was working the week before Covid struck and made us all work from home (not me, obviously).

I tried to find something nice to say about Brasted,

but anywhere whose main shop is “Stephanies’s Shabby Chic” is going to struggle.

But just then I notice a second pub on the A25, so nondescript I’d missed it,

but looking quite regal,

and offering Doom Bar as its sole beer !
Well, it’s not winning any “Heritage pub” awards,

and the wine glasses in front of the lone pump (London Pride, sadly) suggest you’re not coming here for a sesh,

But, despite that shocking thin glass, the Pride was drinking just about OK. Though at £5.20 a pint, so it should.
A few gentlefolk diners, some really naff modern pop (and Taylor Swift), a bit of history.

Yes, not quite Cambridge’s Eagle, but a lovely bit of history.

They seem to have glossed over the fact that Ruth Blake (allegedly) drank here. Bet she wasn’t a Pride drinker.
I wonder what a pint of beer tasted like, when you knew that the previous one might well have been your last?

Pretty damn good, I imagine.

I like the idea of heritage puns. Wordplay jokes so old they have whiskers.
That shield on the portico, supported by two lions, looks magnificent, by the way. As does the London Pride – shame about the glass.

That whole post was a bit of a disaster, Will. Put the same photo of the phone box in twice, seemed to miss of the ending…
Wondered how it could be so bad then I remembered what I’d been doing all day yesterday (pubbing in Donny) ;-(

OK, that would explain it. I was wondering what your intention was with the neologism of “atrocitities” in the title, but I guess that one goes down against Doncaster too!

“Neologism” now, ooh posh.

I hope Donny’s short for Doncaster and nothing to do with Donington…

It’s good to learn that your father-in-law is recovering, Martin. Becoming old, isn’t always easy!
I’ve only set foot in the White Hart, a couple of times, as it was never really a “beery” pub.
