THE END OF THE ROAD

August – September 2023. Somewhere on Cranborne Chase.

An eleventh End of the Road for me, though 2022 was a bit traumatic with Dad in A & E on the first night. This is the festival that re-fired my interest in modern music in 2011, an interest unexpectedly picked up by James. Here he is, supervising Mrs RM’s construction of the day tent. We’re so middle class now.

Close inspection of the ordnance survey extract suggests that while the tent is in Dorset, the actual music in Larmer Gardens happens just over the border in Wiltshire, with Hampshire staring edgily a few miles east.

Simon will remember this area from the time I taxied him across the Chase to the Sixpenny Handley tap, except as it was his sixth pint of the day he probably won’t.

One very good friend was missing this year as the legend that is Newbury’s Tim Thomas couldn’t make it, but other regular friends were present and correct.

I’ve never eaten peacock.

I’ve never eaten alpaca, either. Alfie and Baa Baa were happy to guard the van and admire the sunsets.

I think they might have been a bit scared by the noise and bright lights.

Good to be back, particularly as Thursday’s rain gave way to the Indian summer of the weekend.

But what of the weird music and murky beers I hear you ask.

    1. I’ve missed you checking these, Tim ! (and a certain Canadian). You know, I instinctively knew I’d added a “u” in Cranborne, but Larger is odd. Posting at midnight, bad idea.

Yes, you were very much missed. If you can access the EOTR forum on the Festivals you’ll see my comments assuming you can work out who I post as.
