ISLINGTON CORNER PUB

June 2023. Islington.

Well, more Newington Green, according the Beer Guide,

though I can’t see a Newington Green on the map and the closest tube is Canonbury, perilously close to the Arsenal ground.

It’ll always be Islington to me, where the corner pubs are more open plan and open kitchen, and lack in diversity what they gain in decent salt and pepper squid.

I see the Snooty Fox is still hanging on,

joined this year by Lady Mildmay, perhaps the embodiment of N1 gastropub.

Polished floor, dog friendly,

gastronomique references.

Card only, obvs; Five Points, also obvs. Less obviously, just the one.

In this case, one is plenty, possibly more than enough, the Best an adequate 2.5.

In truth I was running on empty by Pub No. 7, so I may have been a bit harsh on the Mildmay, as evidenced by my bizarre choice of photo.

Oh well, you can’t find something of interest in every pub. Let’s see if Walthamstow can do better, if I can find it.

  1. Would I visit this pub? Perhaps if it was right next to my house. Would I travel across town for it? Never in a million years.

  2. Having watched YouTube about the behaviour of local police in the US, nothing would surprise me. If you thought Germany has too many laws, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

And too many police forces employing psychopaths.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Audit the Audit fyi.
