GEORGE’S MEETING HOUSE – THE PARCEL YARD OF THE WEST ?

A week ago I was sitting triumphant in the Taversoe having completed the Beer Guide, my only regret that other news had pushed the achievement off the front pages of the tabloids. Do I feel flat ? Time will tell if the chase is better than the catch, as Lemmy wrote so eloquently.

Two months ago I was chasing down the final 130 odd pubs, with a lightning raid on Exeter.

Sadly that meant I didn’t really do Topsham Brewery Tap justice,

but, hey, it’s a brewery tap. You’re hardly going to get children attacking your cauliflower, are you ? Their stout was superb.

A 30 second schooner (bad idea) meant I had enough time for another bad idea on the dash back to the station.

Just as BRAPA cannot legally pass the Parcel Yard, so I’ve never visited Exeter without stopping in Georges Meeting House, Tim Martin’s local.

My train left in 10 minutes; I was (Google said) 7 minutes walk away. What was I doing queueing at the bar of a Spoons for a Plum Porter (NBSS 4) ?

It’s tradition. Never underestimate the importance of tradition. Particularly not in this week of all weeks.
