You left me in Cambridge in mid-June, confirming there was life in The Live & Let Live.
I continued on to Mill Road cemetery, the short cut to the Blue Moon (and the garden of the Cambridge Blue if you’re naughty).

Not only is Mill Road Cambridge’s beer street, it’s also where I was born and 16 years later studied Maslow’s hierarchy of needs on my Business Studies course.

And also bought Joy Division’s Closer a year late from Andy’s Records, the cover modelled on the graves beneath the classroom.

Back in 1981 the Blue Moon was called the Man on the Moon, a late ’60s inner Cambridge estate pub that looked too scary for me, despite raucous music nights.

But then Terri and Jethro of Cambridge Blue fame took it on and made it crafty and shiny and welcoming and if it probably falls a bit under the radar in Cambridge it’s an RM favourite.

Simple, arty, pizzas. A formula often copied, rarely bettered.

You could be in Bedminster, or Sheffield (see: The Crow), and I turned up just after a Vibrant Forest takeover that meant I missed the 7.3% rhubarb + raspberry sour (boo !) but got something murky to enjoy among the bicycles outside in Norfolk Street.

and tunes there were, particularly from Roxanne de Bastion, here getting the crowd to sing about molecules.
Beautifully crafted songs, and you can hear every word (I sound like my Dad). And she wrote a really interesting blog post about touring which I recommend.
What in the name of Beelzebub is Maslow’s hierarchy of needs?

You’re joking, right ?
Basically Maslow was a psychologist who postulated that once you’d met people’s basic needs (caves for shelter, Netflix, avocado on sourdough) they would be able to focus on higher ambitions like the corporate rat race, with the most enlightened going on to complete the Good Beer Guide (“self-actualisation”).

Was this you? “one lovely audience member in the front row in Cambridge, singing along, teary eyed, to The Weight”

Bloke next to me, though am occasionally guilty of ruining teenage girls experience of songs at gigs.

At least you weren’t the only male in attendance at this one.

I had to look up the term, as well, so you are not alone, Bill.
Interesting concept, though. 😎
