HOLT GOES CHERRY MILD CRAZY

In 1987 the New Musical Express that The Jesus & Mary Chain were now so old that they couldn’t do their famed fifteen (15) minute sets anymore, as they drifted towards an hour of Darklands dirge.

In 2022 the top bloggers bring you SIX (6) or even SEVEN (7) pubs in one blog.

I still have the irrepressible energy (fuelled by Morrisons cheese) to split one pub between two posts.

That pub is the Lower Turk’s Head on Manchester’s Shudehill, one of the world’s great streets.

I’ve stayed here pre-match before, and loved the pub, atmospheric and slightly mysterious.

And now they’ve swapped Tim Taylor for Holt (new owners), always an improvement.

The Tand had mentioned the Cherry Mild, and most of us in Pub Twitter Land know to follow the Tand’s lead.

It looks the business, placed on the little mini tables.

But to get the full “omph” out of the Cherry Mild, you need to take it to a corner where you can eavesdrop on “wine ladies” discussing their solicitors (honest).

OK, it’s not Bitter, but it’s bloomin’ gorgeous, cool and rich (NBSS 3.5). Would I swap it for the Titanic Cherry Mild though ? No, I’d have both.

Mid afternoon, enough trade to tick over, not enough for discomfort, a good mix of Old Boys and younger ladies.
