PROPER BENCH SEATING AT THE DOG & PARTRIDGE

Having felt a bit depressed by the whole Meadowhell experience, I thought I’d nip into town for another Sheffield Beer Guide revisit.

ALL THE PUBS IN SHEFFIELD ON FOOT No. 28 – Dog & Partridge

The Dog & Partridge, a few streets behind the Cathedral, was rather quieter than on my first visit in late 2018, when I chose a high table to best eavesdrop on Antrim students discussing role playing.

From distant memory (well, 30 months back), the banter beat the beer, but it looked a lovely backstreet pub for all comers.

And still is.

Particularly when I “discovered” the back room.

After the beer barrels and doctors chairs of recent days this was Proper Pub seating. And lovely service, popping a burger menu into my left hand and a foamy, cool pint of Barnsley (NBSS 3.5, a whole point better than 2018) into my right. Perhaps my inlaws would have struggled with the trip hop, perhaps not.

All it needed was some company. Perhaps I shouldn’t have left Mrs RM to fend off the in-laws on her own ?

No, I wasn’t really.

But to make up for nipping for a beer and leaving her in the lurch, I did take her out for a Chinese in the Yummy Food Court, one of 365 such eateries on West Street. No idea what we do on a leap year.

  1. Sheffield really is loaded with good pubs isn’t it? Nice to find a new room on a revisit. Wouldn’t ctrl alt delete this pub no matter how many pints I’ve had.
