CITRA IN EASTWOOD

Having come all this way (twice) I thought I’d better do a second pub in Eastwood. It’s replete with micros called “Mellors Mews” (for Tory voters),”Eastwood Conservative Club” (ditto), “Oliver’s Kitchen” (for Elvis Costello fans), and the “Dog & Parrot” (for animal lovers).

With all that pre-emptive material, I opted for the Spoons.

If I’m honest, I only popped in The Lady Chatterley because it looked SO lively outside I was expecting some blog material and micros can be too quiet. Hardly anyone was eating; I hope that’s not a bad sign.

I wasn’t expecting such an interesting beer range;

Sorry, I took a photo of the wrong bar; the Doom and Abbot were on the other side.

Let’s do the Citra test.

I ordered a half (£1.08) on the App and returned to eavesdropping on typical East Midlands conversation about topics such as Brentford’s chances in the Prem. What is this obsession with Brentford ?

Their pints of Stowford Press, a rival for Carling here, gleamed in the sun.

My Citra never turned up. Typical craft beer, I thought.

I prepared to visit the bar to seek redress, but I couldn’t find an order number. Somehow I’d forgot to press the “Pay” button. Doh ! I blame table service.

When it DID turn up, it was a lovely cool Citra (3.5) that may just have been the only cask I saw pulled in half an hour but was no worse for that.

Bye for now, Eastwood.

But no doubt I’ll be back in the Autumn.

  1. Sadly, this will probably be my only comment here until the fall (I’ll bore you with the details at the end).

    Anyway…

    “and the “Dog & Parrot” (for animal lovers).”

    Hopefully not in the literal sense… or the performing arts sense!

    “With all that pre-emptive material, I opted for the Spoons.”

    You haven’t changed. 🙂

    “If I’m honest, I only popped in The Lady Chatterley”

    Here’s me being on my best behaviour and not replying as I’d like (my darling wife has drilled that into me since getting to camp… otherwise I may offend someone and get fired!). 😉

    “Sorry, I took a photo of the wrong bar; the Doom and Abbot were on the other side.”

    (slow golf clap)

    “My Citra never turned up. ”

    Did he at least text you as to why he wasn’t coming? 😉

    “Somehow I’d forgot to press the “Pay” button. Doh !”

    LOL!

    “Bye for now, Eastwood… But no doubt I’ll be back in the Autumn.”

    That may very well apply to me. 😉

    Cheers

    PS – the boring bits;

    Work in camp is what we thought it would be; leaving little time to relax in the evening. I got home two days ago and am gone again back to camp in two days. Very short time home! Partly due to Covid as we adjust our schedule for the remainder of the season. It will be 2 weeks in/2 weeks out, but my darling wife has already filled our time out until September! We became grandparents for the 2nd time last weekend so a trip to see everyone is in the cards. Plus a family gathering (my wife’s family) that I have been told I will attend. As well, when I am out of camp (like now) I’m still working as they have no actual ‘cross-shift’ for me. So I’m working from home (or wherever I’ll be) and keeping track of my hours… and my beer intake. 🙂

    Fingers crossed the ‘Terrific 21st’ goes off as planned. I may drop in now and then over the summer but, if not, I’ll be back in the Autumn.
