Greetings from the nerve centre of retiredmartin, the only space in the house I’m allowed while Mrs RM arranges sofas, carpets, lino and probably other things I wouldn’t understand.
Don’t faint, but I’ve just been to A NEW PUB ! It might even make WhatPub, if not GBG22*. Details to follow. Thanks to Sheffield Hatter for recommending the Gogmagog (above), a 9% stout names after a Cambridge golf club.
To keep John, Etu and Lorenzo occupied, here’s a quick Guess the Pub you may find easy if you know how my mind works, which is more than I can say about myself.
Aren’t the colours in Bavarian pubs gorgeous ?
I had one of those Hofbrauhaus steins but it seems to failed to survive the trip north. And I’ve just broke the 2019 Indyman tasting glass. Is there an Indyman this year ?
Our mystery pubs is no doubt older than it looks; Bavarian beer halls are notable for their quality.
Traditional German music here on most nights. Here we have a local Kraftwerk tribute band called The Check Shirt Man Machine playing Side 2 of Radioactivity.
And those sausages that always seem a good idea until you weigh yourself afterwards. Good to know : Don’t ever weigh yourself.
This particular beer hall wasn’t frequented by noted scholar Johann Dietrich, who studied long before the arrival of the nail salons, charging stations and cosmetic surgery clinics for which the hilly surrounding streets are best known.
As Bertie Vogts might say, “Prost”.
*Though now GBG22 will allow the “best” branches to have their 100% of entries again we might see a re-allocation from South Lanarkshire to South Yorkshire so who knows ?
After your recent mis-directions, with supposedly English pubs in Michigan and Florida, a Welsh pub in Brittany and then a Cask Marque pub in Copenhagen, I’m betting that your Bavarian beer hall will be found in Madrid.

Your logic is sound.

I reckon it’s the Dutch Bavaria brewery, so it’s probably a German theme bar in Maastricht.

Feeling I may be off the mark but…
There are Hofbrauhaus in US and BV was a technical coach there when Jurgen Klinsmann was USA “soccer” manager 🤔

At first I thought that the building was neoclassical, but now I see that it’s rather more Art Deco

It doesn’t look like any Bavarian pub that I’ve been in, and I’ve drank in quite a few in my time. The Hofbrau Maβ Krugs are an obvious clue, but as Graeme says, the brewery have outlets in the US, including Vegas and Chicago.

“the only space in the house I’m allowed while Mrs RM arranges sofas, carpets, lino and probably other things I wouldn’t understand.”
I thought there was a mix-up with the sofas? 😉
“Details to follow. ”
Blimey.
“for recommending the Gogmagog (above), a 9% stout”
A fitting name considering these apocalyptic times.
“I had one of those Hofbrauhaus steins but it seems to failed to survive the trip north. And I’ve just broke the 2019 Indyman tasting glass.”
Hopefully this kind of bad luck doesn’t come in threes.
“Bavarian beer halls are notable for their quality.”
Wait. It’s not THE Hofbrauhau is it?
“Here we have a local Kraftwerk tribute band called The Check Shirt Man Machine playing Side 2 of Radioactivity.”
Ah. Not the big state owned one then.
“Good to know : Don’t ever weigh yourself.”
Quite agree. Never give it much thought myself. 🙂
Cheers

I floundered until I spotted the blackboard through the hatch behind the trombone player, John.
It says “UPSTAIRS”.
Not many German words end in “…OOD” either, so I guessed that the shop or whatever over the road was not in Germany either.
The football clue did the rest – I searched “Bavarian bier halle in Scotland” and there we were.
There’s some nice polished British plumbing on display too.

“Upstairs” is actually German for “WiFi password”.
