I shall press on, avoiding the terms “Good Beer Guide” and “GBG21” as much as possible, and wake up to the sound of the CAMRA police knocking on my door at 4am* to strip me of my privilege.
The new GBG will be full of micropubs, I bet ya, and I’d been warned about advised to visit the Wonkey Donkey ages ago as it’s run by the folk who blow froth or something. You remember them. The ones who run the pub with seats like this;

Anyway, a free day, a chance to pre-emptively put the tick on the Donkey, as it were.
For a change, have an aerial view of Peterborough; it’s best that way.

A first trip to Fletton since, ooh, 1993 I think. It’s Proper Peterborough.
I warmed to the Donkey immediately on seeing the After School Club for Mums. Or I did after realising my own personal absence of “mum” wasn’t a barrier to entry.

I like their style.

And I like their beer board. Is £3.50 the new £3 in micros ? (joke, joke).

In micros these days you’re either too late and have to stand outside in the rain waiting for slow drinkers to finish up, or you’re the only one in.

Full marks to the nice man behind the bar for being so chatty; I wish I’d taken notes. I barely remember that this is local Miletree Mosaka which was very tasty in a strange way.

Oh, yes, he’d lived in Waterbeach when it had the barracks. We should have compared notes on the Chung Hwa.

But as you’ll know, 31% of the appeal of a micropub is the loo. This one had an actual separate Gents, which as you can see has received awards from all the publications that matter.

*Probably not in this rain
Seems a jolly enough place – thanks for a nice read, Martin.

A plain, simple truth is a thing of beauty for ever Paul.
It’s a real comfort, after all the disingenuous mouthings of the blatherskites and snollygosters running things at the moment.

Etu,
Yes, and that’s two proper words sadly no longer in common parlance.

Craft cans at £4.00 a pop, and no doubt small ones as well. I wonder how many are actually sold, or whether the licensee drinks them when they approach their sell-by-date?

Ha!
I wonder that too.

You could pay £9 for a can in Stafford.

Is humour allowed in micro’s?

It seems to be compulsory in this one.

Funny, I’ve just been in a micro (-ish) with those airplane seats. I’m sure you will be there soon…

Oh, no, the other picture.

Manufacturing airplane seats is a side-line for the Bass mirror factory in Wrexham.

The fact that “Do Not Lick The Bar Staff…” even needs to be stated…

Have you been to Peterborough, Dan ? EVERYTHING needs to be stated.

Obviously BRAPA has already passed that way.

Sadly I can’t comment on maps (OS or otherwise) until I get my eyes checked.
(which will be Nov 4th… yay!)
“Or I did after realising my own personal absence of “mum” wasn’t a barrier to entry.”
They meant the flower, right?
“I like their style.”‘
(guffaw!) Indeed!
“And I like their beer board. ”
Oooh… La Chouffe! (and I like how they don’t charge by the ABV)
“which was very tasty in a strange way.”
Ah. The photo below explains why you had that “by the folk who blow froth or something” comment at the top. The magazine in the photo says pretty much the same thing. 😉
“We should have compared notes on the Chung Hwa.”
In the photo below, why is he not fining her for having her dog off the leash?
“This one had an actual separate Gents, which as you can see has received awards from all the publications that matter.”
LOL! Well done them!
Cheers
— And with that I’m caught up to yesterday. My weekend was a busy/lazy one. Either too busy to comment, or too lazy (i.e. content). Quite enjoyable actually. But for now it’s back to the usual routine so hopefully I won’t be as remiss this week. 🙂
