I ended my session as DES at the White Hart in Chilsworthy on the edge of Dartmoor.
Mrs RM is now regretting all those pints as much as I am not having had them now, but at this stage in the season it was all about ticks, ticks, ticks..
Actually, the views as dusk closed in were the highlight. From the top of the disused mines you can just make out Andover.
6pm on a Friday, a destination dining pub with CAMRA awards (Pub of the Year 2020) and Uley Ales (why ?). Would we even get in ?
Just about, as the gentlefolk headed to the conservatory overlooking the valley and we plumped for the seat by the window near the fire.
A good seat, and of course excellent company (am reading from notes here).
But what beers do they have ?
Sadly not that one.
I spy Treen’s from Ponsanooth. as the Landlord/waiter/Covid enforcer approaches.
“A pints of Resolve, and a J20 for me, please.”
The foaming pint is place in front of me.
“Oi, that’s mine !” says Mrs RM.
“Ooooh, a lady ale drinker, good to see” says our Landlord, giving her a friendly nudge that in the 18th century would have required me to challenge him to a duel.
Mrs RM normally breaks into her “I’m a girl who drinks pints of real ale, I am” spiel at this point but he’d wisely moved away.
A top all-rounder; CAMRAs, couples, lads smoking on the balcony. We’d have stayed till food started at 6 but it’s no fun watching your wife drinking, so we admired the view one last time and headed back before dark descended.
