WARNING : DO NOT READ WHILE EATING. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
A life’s mission to complete the Beer Guide has to play the cards that CAMRA deal. The obligatory closed micro, misunderstandings at the bar, a Brewer’s Fayre in Fife.
But worst of all are the identikit gastropubs and wine bars of Cheshire, my least liked county since Stockport jumped ship and joined Greater Manchester (ducks).
At least my next tick is in Knutsford, not the dreaded Wilmslow.
King Street, despite the traffic, is gorgeous.

I know you love Proper Pub names. In Knutsford we get “Lounge”, “Easten Revive”, “Dexter & Jones“, “Belle Epoque”, “Botanist” and “Project 53”.
So Wine & Wallop fits right in. One for the traddies.
But it’s a must visit.
Not so much for the beer; a cool, tasty Blackjack made foamy and indistinct in that way only Cheshire can manage (NBSS 2.5/3)

But for the eclectic music (a version of Sweet Thing so obscure that my app couldn’t recognise it) and an astonishing building that was worth the entrance fee of a half (£2.10, card only).
But it’s the toilets you should visit.
Anyway, remarkable. Go there now. Drink keg; it won’t kill you.
NB Folk dress well in Knutsford. Both in 1967,

and 2019.
Solihull should up sticks and decamp to Cheshire

Well, I think we’ve all learnt something there…
Is there matching Cock & Ball imagery in the Ladies? You did check yes! If not the place may need reporting to the Minnies…

No doubt BRAPA will check.

It was lunchtime, and I was just getting tucked into my sandwiches. I didn’t heed your warning!
(The Real) Mark is right. In the interests of equality, someone needs to check the Ladies.

And the other Wine & Wallop in Didsbury!
No idea if they’re related.

Ahh, Knutsford. I always feel I’ve taken the gloss off the place a bit every time I visit, being a half Scots oik from Lancashire.

Thanks for that Martin, your blog is hilarious! I was in Rochdale a few weeks back for the marathon, watching not partaking……. ‘Spoons serve a purpose, they can be a safe bet in times of need.
