Oh, you find a better title. BRAPA will, no doubt.

Another day, another Aberdeenshire coastal gem. As before, I’ve marked BrewDog HQ on the map so you can put Banff in context.
Oddly, I’ve yet to go to Ellon, and the end of the Punk Airline direct from Stansted means I may never get there.

Banff looks more interesting in close-up, where you can see where Bondi Beach emigrated to Australia from, and wonder when the micro pub will arrive on Collie Rocks.

The approach via Macduff is marvellous.

I shouldn’t have been surprised, we camped just along the coast at Portsoy in 1998, meeting a Bass fan from Buckinghamshire in the GBG pub (not a limerick).
Great coastal walks past the harbour,

a dramatic descent from the High Street,

and some regal relics that justify you stopping suddenly to take photos and annoy gentlefolk who don’t know whether to stop still or keep walking. KEEP WALKING !

Of course, half an hour and you’ve walked the bounds and walked up a hunger, so unless you fancy Melissa’s Missteak, and I really did, head for the Market Arms .

Friendly, mixed crowd, families having lunch, old brewery mirror (not Bass), just a cheery harbourside local.
And only one beer. Hurrah!

Now you’re probably starting to wonder “When’s he going to tip some beer away and slag off Scottish beer“.
You’ve got a long wait.

In the immortal words of John Anderson and Helen Ogilvie;

Thanks for the bumph on Banff. Bonfire Night seems long ago now. It’s been flippin’ cold today too. Ben phoned to say hello, which was nice though.
Incidentally, the Butcher’s in Llandaff is no longer a Bass pub – end of an era 😦

Yes, according to a regular, the newish management said “it was too difficult to keep” which doesn’t augur well for their husbandry of cask ales per se if you ask me.
They now stock…Pride.

But you must visit Aberdeen!
There’s 108 bars and Duncan and Scott and I have only been in 23 of them 😉

“There once was a Bass fan from Buckinghamshire…”
I’d better stop, there’s already far too many beats per line!
I for one am very glad you haven’t needed to pour anything into the potted plants or the urinals lately. The effort it takes for you to get to some of these places– it’s heartbreaking when the beer turns out to be no good, truly.
It brings me great joy to know there is a place on the map called Knock Head. 🙂

There’s some great place names there. Prof Pie-Tin would have a field day. Hope he’s OK, long time no hear.

Fooled me. I thought it was about that majestic place in Canada. 🙂
““The origin of the name is uncertain. It may be derived from the Scottish Gaelic banbh meaning “piglet”; buinne, a stream; or a contraction of Bean-naomh meaning “holy woman” “
Maybe it was due to a holy woman slaughtering a piglet by a stream for some sort of religious ceremony?
“Banff looks more interesting in close-up, where you can see where Bondi Beach emigrated to Australia from, ”
Pfft. Proper Banff upped stakes years ago and moved to Canada.
“Duff over there”
You’re not talking the beer from the Simpsons are you?
“Great coastal walks past the harbour,”
Pretty sure if the walk is past a harbour, then it’s coastal. 🙂
“Good for skating”
But not for Si’s wonky knee!
“That’s the colour of Matt’s hair these days”
I bet you were tickled ‘pink’ to find that out! 😉
“And only one beer. Hurrah!”
I see two pump clips. 🙂
“Now you’re probably starting to wonder “When’s he going to tip some beer away and slag off Scottish beer“.”
Pfft. You cannae do that in bonny Scotland. Will all the rain they normally get that extra bit of liquid would kill the plant! 🙂
Cheers

Two pumps, one beer on. Scottish pubs sensibly reducing range in Winter.
