Next stop on the great “Pubmeister Does All of Wales” was somewhere called Maenclochog, which sadly means something like “37 minutes from civilisation”.
Before we got there, Duncan got a bit distracted…
During that stop in Pontfaen, someone mentioned Rosebush, which I always thought was a Citizen Kane reference.
Apparently not. The Tafarn Zinc (“Tin Shed”) is apparently a tin shed.
It’d been in and out of the Beer Guide, but it’s not in this year. But it was in the 1992 edition, which Duncan was keen to complete (that’s a fib).
I’m sure there’s an interesting back story, and it’s certainly an essential stop, though it all seemed a bit overdone to me.
Most of the custom was there for food, and I was reminded of a more interesting version of one of those Isle of Wight pubs dripping with farmhouse implements.
Duncan grimaced a bit at his half of Cwr. I found redemption in the garden, where they’d cryogenically frozen some railway passengers from 1962 when Beeching closed the station.
Anyway, it’s a theme park of a pub. For fans of tin sheds.

Fine views of my balding pate and the old railway station. I see you are still struggling with how to spell the Welsh word for beer but confident you will have sorted that out by the time you finish Wales. Firmly your idea thus one as I recall as it was a revisit for me, but an entertaining diversion. Tell Russ it’s not easy drinking for two.

As I have previously mentioned, I visited this pub on my birthday in 2015, and was told to move from the bar to the dining area to eat my rahter meagre Ploughman’s. Since then I believe it has closed and been reopened as a community-owned venture – the previous attitude wasn’t exactly going to encourage trade.

It was still being run essentially as a themed restaurant though there were plenty of drinkers at the bar.
Once you’ve seen the tin the appeal us limited.

That old “tat” doesn’t look too bad.
Maybe all that “tat” currently being manufactured in Wrexham will be okay by about 2069.
Rosebush railway station closed in 1937 so that’s one Beeching’s NOT to blame for.
The platform looks unusually low.

Ah, yes, that’s why the line wasn’t viable and it closed in 1937.
No, no, time spent researching is time not spent getting round pubs, drinking beer and saving the great British pint for us all.

That tin shed of a pub, reminds me of some of the bars I visited in Reykjavik last summer.
The interior also looks quite similar.
