TICKING THE DRONE VALLEY

September 2026. Unstone. Derbyshire.

A gorgeous Saturday afternoon in Dronfield,

though my plans to bring you pictures of St John the Baptist’s stained glass were halted by the arrival of the wedding car.

Some similarly impressive vehicles awaited me on my return to Drone Valley Brewery in the hamlet of Unstone.

My third brewery tap of the new GBG sits next to a Morris Minor repair shop and a steel fabricator, and I couldn’t in all honesty tell you what any of those three do.

Drone Valley is a community melting pot; run by volunteers, putting profits into good causes, and most importantly has a giant bear sitting under the marquee canvas, awaiting live music later.

It’s a characterful, colourful set-up. There’s better pictures than mine on their website (here), but you can see how beautifully presented their beer is;

the Crossover an immaculate NBSS 4.

I just could have done without another slog back to the railway station, despite the bucolic views and floral smell. Think that last stretch might have cured the wobbly leg, mind.

  1. Be careful how you express that – I’ve thought three times that my injury sustained on January’s ice was cured, only to be proved wrong within minutes, hours or (a new world record) days. It’s always best to express doubt so as not to anger the gods. Also don’t mention you injury to anyone who shows the slightest interest. Or anyone who doesn’t, for that matter. You’ll notice that I never do.
