PIFFLE SNONKERS AT THE BROOMFIELD TAVERN, COVENTRY

August 2026. Coventry.

Nearly finished.

But not quite. Oxford Nick and I found a short cut to the legendary Broomfield Tavern tucked away off Spon End, and I immediately sighed “Oh, that’s the Broomfield“.

In my mind, I visited all the 14,000 odd pubs on my spreadsheet (the big one) in either 1996, 2001 or 2022.

If I had to describe the pub in one word, it would be “Woof !“.

I’m sure they were there back in 1996/2001 or whever I last visited, blocking my dash for the bar.

This is the slightly chaotic ale drinkers’ pubs, the local equivalent of Stockport’s Old Vic or the Royal in Great Harwood, and inevitably the beer of choice is something with a daft ale drinkers’ name.

Piffle Snonker is what folk on BBC/LBC whose local is the Dove in Hammersmith think that CAMRA folk drink all the time.

I was keen to improve your knowledge of Piffle Snonkering,

courtesy of the Frothblowers Website, but I’m none the wiser, but the inaugural dinner sounds good.

We were gone by now, except Nick, who takes looking serious to a higher level.

Oh yes, they had batches here too.

I nearly had another one, but I know my limits.
