May 2026. Stockport. Manchester. Sheffield.
Big news in the RM household yesterday as Matt and Emma move from Piccadilly to Heaton Norris, SK4. If it was good enough for Old Mudgie…
I met Matt and Emma’s lovely folks in Beermoth a fortnight ago* to talk campervan travel and Tame Impala and house moves.

A small session here, having successfully bagged one of the tables forn four by the bar. Not enough tables for lone FOCs in my view in Beermoth.
Harvey’s mild a bit watery, Augustiner a bit fizzy,

the Lambics the star.

Three (3) pints before the Etihad for a 3-0 gubbing of gamely Brentford was a daft idea, as daft as agreeing to have pint that turned into three (3) with reader Kev of Banner Cross back in Sheffield.

But Kev is the nicest of folk, as good a listener as a talker, and you should never turn down the chance of great conversation, with fellow City fan or not.

Life, like Pep Guardiola’s stellar reign at the Etihad, is too short.
*Yep, blog slipping a bit, blame Romanian internet.
That post took 7:45 minutes to write in the departure loune at Cluj airport. Doddle this blogging lark.

My first car was a Heaton Norris. It wouldn’t start on cold mornings, so I used to have to suck the clenching pin tight to the arc thrust to get it going, etc.
P.S. Is there also a Farmyard beer called ‘I Have Many Leather Bound Books’?

If there isn’t yet they’ll make one.
Is there a hamlet called Hillman Imp near Lincoln ?

Just a bit too carbonated, like it was in London. I don’t want to say “doesn’t travel”, but I really doubt it gets the throughput Augustiner gets in Germany.

There’s a definite east-west split now in Heaton Norris on either side of the A6. The western half might as well be Heaton Moor at the top end, especially the conservation area around the Nursery, and the lower end between the Magnet and Crown will likely merge with the redevelopment going on along the banks of the Mersey. The eastern half of terraced streets and seventies housing estates going towards Lancashire Hill still seems some way off being regenerated like the rest of the new Berlin though.
Stockport County started life as Heaton Norris Rovers. If things go to plan at Wembley this afternoon, they’ll be playing Spurs or West Ham at Edgeley Park next season, with an exciting away trip to a big London stadium to look forward to.
